Deadpool sequel Cable

Now that a sequel to DEADPOOL is officially on the books with Tim Miller returning to direct and Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick once again crafting the script, there's been a lot of talk of the one new element we know will be turning up in the sequel: Cable. While speaking with IGN to promote DEADPOOL's forthcoming home-media release, Tim Miller dicussed just why he wants Cable featured in the DEADPOOL sequel.

There’s a lot about Cable’s history that I like because he’s so intertwined with the world of the X-Men. Why he was put together with Deadpool – other than that he was in a comic that wasn’t selling well and Deadpool was in a comic that wasn’t selling well so they put them together – it’s the same reason we had Colossus; he’s a straight man. And I think Deadpool needs a straight man. Cable is the ultimate, archetypal, silent, strong and cynical warrior, which Deadpool is not.

DEADPOOL screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick agreed with Miller's comments and described the traits they've looking for in the actor who winds up with the role, "strength, gravitas, a purposefulness that Deadpool doesn’t have. Deadpool’s kind of got ADD, and we think of Cable as someone who locks onto something and is going to get that thing solved no matter what." There are plenty of great candidates for the role, with Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) himself suggesting Mel Gibson, Dolph Lundgren, or Keira Knightley. AVATAR's Stephen Lang has also thrown his hat into the ring by saying that he'd be down for the role. We still have a bit of a wait ahead until we find out who will fill Cable's shoes, but the wait is almost over for DEADPOOL's home-media release, as the Blu-ray/DVD will hit stores on May 10, 2016.

Who would you like to see as Cable in the DEADPOOL sequel?
