Y'know, it's hard not to like John Krasinksi. After watching him come into his own as Jim from The Office, Krasinski has been working to forge his own path in Hollywood, even being in contention for Captain America before Chris Evans took the shield. Earlier this year he took a great step forward in Michael Bay's 13 HOURS: THE SECRET SOLDIERS OF BENGHAZI (a highly underrated flick) and now his Sundance feature, THE HOLLARS, is making its way to theaters with a really solid line-up of actors involved, including Anna Kendrick, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Richard Jenkins, Margo Martindale, and Sharlto Copley. That's a great line-up for your first one out the door and today we have our first look at the trailer for the comedy/drama.
Here's the synopsis:
John Hollar, a struggling NYC artist is forced to navigate the small middle-American town he left behind when news of his mother's illness brings him home. Back in the house he grew up in, John is immediately swept up in the problems of his dysfunctional family, high school rival, and an over-eager ex-girlfriend as he faces impending fatherhood with his girlfriend in New York.
It's seems like a lot of filmmakers start off with these smaller, hometown-type flicks to get the ball rolling (much like Zach Braff's GARDEN STATE) and this looks like a pleasant enough pill to swallow. Bumbray saw it at Sundance and seemed to enjoy it (his review HERE), but noted that it may be just a little too heavy on the comedy in many parts, but with some great performances within. The trailer certainly gives that vibe and I'm intrigued to continue watching "the rise of Jim from The Office" both as a filmmaker and an actor. He's definitely got the potential to climb the ladder and deliver some great work with the right material. But, hey, that goes for everyone in the Hollywood trenches. Regardless, this seems like a step in the right direction for him.
THE HOLLARS opens on August 26th, 2016.
