Although those negative SUICIDE SQUAD reviews didn't keep the flick from making some serious money (and breaking records) at the box-office over the weekend, they are having an effect on a little DCEU movie which is still shooting by the name of JUSTICE LEAGUE. Taking some time out to speak with MTV, Ezra Miller (The Flash) revealed that the negative feedback from some critics has only further motivated the entire JUSTICE LEAGUE cast to deliver a film which both critics and fans alike will love.
You needn’t look any further than the Suicide Squad director and cast response to the negative reviews to feel how negative critiques motivate us. Ultimately, we can’t base anything on [the critical response]. As artists, we aim to please absolutely everybody with our work, but we also know that we have to keep expressing ourselves as best as we can express ourselves. It’s like that T.I. song, ‘Motivation.’
Will JUSTICE LEAGUE finally right the floundering DCEU ship? Hopefully WONDER WOMAN will have already done it, but the JUSTICE LEAGUE trailer released during San Diego Comic-Con certainly looked promising; however, you know what they say, never judge a film by its trailer, or…something like that. Fans didn't trash SUICIDE SQUAD nearly as harshly as the critics did, but reaction to the movie was still decidedly mixed, leaving me to wonder just how Warner Bros. will react when it comes to their rather large upcoming slate of DCEU movies. Make sure to let us know what YOU thought of SUICIDE SQUAD once you've seen the film.
SUICIDE SQUAD is now playing in theaters (check out reviews from our own Chris Bumbray and Paul Shirey) and JUSTICE LEAGUE is set for a November 17, 2017 release.
