A great historical biopic should be able to teach you something new about the subject it’s depicting, giving you a whole new perspective that makes your time in history class seem pointless. I’m sure not many people knew before the movie LINCOLN came out that Abraham Lincoln looked exactly like Daniel Day-Lewis.
Another example would be that when we all picture NASA in its early years, we would picture a control room with lots of brick-looking computers and a sea of white men wearing white, button down shirts with black ties. But little did we know space travel would probaby not be possible if not for a few intelligent, capable black women. Is your mind blown? Good, then HIDDEN FIGURES is the flick for you.
Check out the trailer below!
HIDDEN FIGURES tells the story about three women, Katherine G. Johnson (Taraji P. Henson), Dorothy Vaughn (Octavia Spencer) and Mary Jackson (Janelle Monáe), who were instrumental in launching astronaut John Glenn, the first man to orbit Earth, into space in 1962. They, in the process, pushed not only the boundaries of space travel, but of women in the workplace.
The movie itself doesn’t come out until January 2017, but as long as the movie is released in a few theaters before the end of 2016 it can qualify for the major awards, like the Golden Globes or the Oscars. That would be a wise idea, as it comes off as the feel-good biopic that Academy members and audiences love, which would be perfect for the end of the year awards fever that can increase the movie's success. Can you smell the gold? I can smell the gold.
HIDDEN FIGURES is set for January 13, 2017 with Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monáe, Kirsten Dunst, Kevin Costner and Jim Parsons
