New photos from HBO’s Westworld emerge as cast members tease their roles

Set in a futuristic theme park where "every human appetite, no matter how noble or depraved, can be indulged," HBO's upcoming adaptation of Michael Crichton's WESTWORLD is currently sitting pretty darn high on my list of anticipated projects for the remainder of 2016. It's been a long time coming, but the various teasers and trailers for Westworld seem to promise something equal parts strange, beautiful and dangerous. The project also boasts an all-star cast including Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden and many more. Entertainment Weekly got a peek at several new images from the upcoming series as well as brief teases from the actors on their characters.

Anthony Hopkins plays Dr. Robert Ford, the creator of Westworld who is being described as a cross between Walt Disney and Dr. Frankenstein. Hopkins says that Ford "wants to create a pure dystopia or utopia, but he begins to realize that he’s lost track of it."

Evan Rachel Wood found playing Dolores, the naive prairie girl who "gradually begins to realize her reality might not be what it seems,"  to be particularly challenging as "every little beat, every moment and every flicker of your eye means something" when you're playing an android, or "hosts" as they're called in the series.

Unlike the Gunslinger played by Yul Brynner in the 1973 film, Ed Harris' character, known as the Man in Black, will be a human rather than an android. The Man in Black frequently visits Westworld and "comes across as a sadist who’s on a mysterious quest," with Harris teasing that “he’s got a much more specific intention than just having a good time.”

HBO doesn't want you to know much about Teddy Flood, played by James Marsden, at the moment, but Marsden did promise that the twists and turns of Westworld will keep you constantly off balance. "You’ll think you’ll know what’s happening, and where [the story is] going, but you’ll be wrong." Westworld will debut on HBO on October 2, 2016.
