Several years ago Sylvester Stallone starred in ESCAPE PLAN as Ray Breslin, a consultant for the Federal Bureau of Prisons who used his talents to test the efficiency and escapability of America's most secure prisons. After finding himself framed and incarcerated in The Tomb, an escape-proof prison which was built based on Breslin's ideas, he orchestrates an escape in an attempt find the person who put him behind bars. Personally, I found the film to be fairly entertaining, although largely forgettable, and thanks to a strong international box-office, it appears that Sylvester Stallone will have yet another opportunity to break out of prison.
Deadline reports that Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films have green-lit a sequel to ESCAPE PLAN and that Sylvester Stallone will be back to reprise his role of Ray Breslin, although this time it will be in a supporting capacity rather than a leading role. ESCAPE PLAN didn't exactly bring in the big bucks domestically ($25 million), but it fared much better overseas and part of the reason why we're even getting a sequel is that a major Chinese component will be involved in its financing. Miles Chaplan, who worked on the first screenplay, will also be returning to pen the script for ESCAPE PLAN 2. Pre-production is set to get underway on January 15th with shooting kicking off by March 15th in both China and Ohio. At this point it's not known whether Arnold Schwarzenegger, who played a fellow prisoner who assisted Breslin with his escape, will be returning as well, but somehow I doubt it.
Any thoughts on the ESCAPE PLAN sequel? Who would you like to see team up with Stallone this time?
