Barry Jenkins' MOONLIGHT has been scooping up a considerable amount of praise (check out a review from our own Chris Bumbray) ever since its release, with particular attention paid to its actors, including Mahershala Ali, André Holland, Naomie Harris and Trevante Rhodes. The latter played Chiron, the main character of MOONLIGHT, as an adult and now THR has the scoop on which project Trevante Rhodes will be tackling next.
The outlet reports that Rhodes has joined the cast of Shane Black's THE PREDATOR. The upcoming film also stars Boyd Holbrook and Olivia Munn and it's said that Rhodes will be playing the best friend of Holbrook's character, both of whom are ex-Marines. Details on the plot are still being kept under wraps but, despite Shane Black's denials, THR still claims that the film will take place in the suburbs. I suppose we'll have to wait and see. Production on THE PREDATOR is expected to get underway next month with Shane Black directing from a script he co-wrote with Fred Dekker. As for whether THE PREDATOR will be a reboot or a sequel, Shane Black spoke exclusively with our own Eric Walkuski late last year and said:
I think it has to stand on its own two feet, but our goal is to make sure it acknowledges that, yeah, it is 30 years later in the continuity of the story. In other words, Dutch Schaefer's patrol, which was attacked and largely slaughtered, happened 30 years ago in the context of the story. It's referenced, it's part of the mythology. In that way, it's more of a sequel than a reboot.
THE PREDATOR is set for a February 9, 2018 release.
