About a year ago, actors Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill sat down for a dual interview wherein they spoke about their DC Comics-related superhero film, BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. The film had just come out, and, had consequently met with some pretty scathing reviews from both the press and comics fans alike. While fielding one of several questions asked of the dynamic duo, Cavill responded with enthusiasm, while Affleck … well, yeah. I don’t know what happened, really. Ben appeared to simply collapse in on himself, entering into some manner of trance-like, introspective nightmare state. Then, because the internet is a savage place, the video went viral – as Simon and Garfunkle’s “The Sound of Silence” played over a seemingly conflicted Affleck.
This week, while speaking with an interviewer from BBC 1 Radio, Affleck broke his silence on the matter and explained what actually transpired within those awkward moments. Here’s a slice of what he had to say:
It taught me not to do interviews with Henry Cavill where I don’t say anything and they can lay Simon and Garfunkel tracks over it. That’s one thing I learned.
But that’s not all. The actor, director also spoke about what he’d learned while on the set of BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, in addition to sharing some information about his personal collection of movie memorabilia.
It’s a fun, albeit brief interview that you can check out by watching the video below:
Personally, I think Affleck has a lot to be sad about in regard to the finished product of BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE – and pretty much the state of the DCEU as a whole. That said, there’s still time to turn things around, as a lot of exciting film projects are well on their way to theaters in the forseeable future. And while I might not be the biggest DCEU fan, there are still plenty of people who enjoy the hell out of it. This knowledge, among many other things currently going on in his life, should be enough to make Ben smile for quite some time.
You can catch both Ben Affleck's Batman and Henry Cavill's Superman fighting beside Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg in Zack Snyder's JUSTICE LEAGUE – opening in theaters on November 17, 2017.
