Warner Bros. tasks Joby Harold with performing a rewrite on The Flash

The Flash Justice League

Warner Bros. has certainly had a rough time developing THE FLASH, the standalone DCEU film centered around Ezra Miller's character, and the latest news has taken the project right back to page one. D'oh.

Variety reports that Warners Bros. has tapped Joby Harold (KING ARTHUR: LEGEND OF THE SWORD) to completely rewrite the script for THE FLASH. The project has been on hold ever since Rick Famuyiwa departed the project due to "creative differences" late last year, and it seems that the studio has decided to take the script in an entirely different direction while they search for a new director, hence the page one rewrite. The previous draft of the script was written by Famuyiwa, and it's said that the reason for his departure had to do with the studio disagreeing with where he wanted to take the story. Rick Famuyiwa said that he had "pitched a version of the film in line with my voice, humor, and heart," but that it wound up clashing with the studio's take. Joby Harold has several projects on the horizon, including KING ARTHUR: LEGEND OF THE SWORD on May 12, 2017 and ROBIN HOOD: ORIGINS on March 23, 2018.

THE FLASH was slated for a March 16, 2018 release, but I'd imagine that we'll be hearing a new date announced before too long.
