Full cast & synopsis for Marvel’s Black Panther has been revealed

Production on Ryan Coogler's BLACK PANTHER kicked off earlier this week, but now Marvel has made it official! In addition to confirming much of the already announced cast, Disney's press-release also reveals the official synopsis for the film. After being introduced in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, and stealing many of the scenes he was in, Marvel fans have been eagerly awaiting Black Panther's first standalone adventure and I've got a feeling that Ryan Coogler and company will not disappoint.

Per Disney's press-release, BLACK PANTHER will star Chadwick Boseman (CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR), Michael B. Jordan (CREED), Lupita Nyong’o (12 YEARS A SLAVE), Danai Gurira (The Walking Dead), Martin Freeman (THE HOBBIT), Daniel Kaluuya (SICARIO), Angela Bassett (American Horror Story), Forest Whitaker (ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY), Andy Serkis (AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON), Letitia Wright (READY PLAYER ONE), Winston Duke (Person of Interest), Florence Kasumba (CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR), Sterling K. Brown (The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story) and John Kani (CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR). No matter how you slice it, that's one heck of a cast. BLACK PANTHER is currently filming at Pinewood Studios in Atlanta, but the production will also make the leap to South Korea before all is said and done. As for the synopsis, let's take a look:

“Black Panther” follows T’Challa who, after the events of “Captain America: Civil War,” returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T’Challa’s mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.

As is usual with Marvel, nothing particularly illuminating has been revealed, but, perhaps more than any of the other upcoming MCU flicks, I am absolutely pumped to see what BLACK PANTHER has to offer. Of all the Marvel heroes getting their own movies, he's the one I'm the least familiar with, so the chance to be introduced to a brand-new world and dozens of new characters is pretty damn appealing.

BLACK PANTHER is set for a February 16, 2018 release.
