You can’t escape her; check out the first three minutes of Rings

Rings

The long-delayed sequel to Gore Verbinski's THE RING was originally slated to debut in 2015, but Paramount wound up pulling the film from their schedule and later pushed the release back a total of three times. We won't have long to wait to see if those delays are any indication of the movie's quality, as F. Javier Gutiérrez's RINGS is finally set to hit theaters this Friday. Picking up thirteen years after the events of THE RING TWO, the upcoming sequel stars Matilda Lutz as Julia, a young woman who becomes worried when her boyfriend, Holt (Alex Roe) begins exploring the dark urban legend of a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after viewing. The first three minutes of RINGS have been released online, as well as a bonus clip, which will make you nostalgic for the days when everyone had a VCR. A killer 4K Ultra HD disc just doesn't have the same degree of menace.

It's been some time since I last watched THE RING, but I certainly have fond memories of it. My memories of its sequel on the other hand are pretty much limited to that deer scene. You know the one. Will RINGS be able to launch the franchise all over again? I guess we'll soon find out.

The official synopsis of RINGS:

A new chapter in the beloved RING horror franchise. A young woman becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it. She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before…

RINGS will hit theaters on February 3rd.
