Looks like after casting Iwan Rheon as its mischievous villain Maximus, the Marvel INHUMANS show on ABC has just cast its Black Bolt! And it's none other than Anson Mount (AMC's HELL ON WHEELs), who is literally being hired to stand there and look pretty.
Hell, INHUMANS showrunner Scott Buck confirms that assertion:
Black Bolt is a character whose deep complexity must be conveyed without uttering a single word, and I’m very excited to have Anson on board to bring him to life.
Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb, also had this to say about Mount:
Anson loves the challenge of playing a character who will only communicate silently…His enthusiasm mixed with his imposing almost regal persona made it easy to see why he is our Black Bolt.
Well, this all definitely sounds interesting. Especially since fans of this, admittedly, niche title have constantly compare it to "GAME OF THRONES with superheroes". I can definitely get behind that (and also helps explain Rheon's casting)! It's kinda sad that the Inhumans couldn't be the surrogate mutants for the MCU like they wanted, but this sounds like a decent consolation prize.
Either way, INHUMANS will premiere its first two episodes in IMAX theaters September, then it will continue on ABC for its full eight-episode run.
