Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie (1997)
Directors: David Winning & Shuki Levy
Stars: Johnny Yong Bosch, Nakia Burrise, Jason David Frank
With the new POWER RANGERS movie hitting theaters this past weekend, Awfully Good Movies is here to take you back to 1997 and the early days of the Power Rangers, as we review TURBO: A POWER RANGERS MOVIE! Though we have yet to see whether the new POWER RANGERS merits a sequel, the first flick from 1995 sure as hell got one, and this sequel helped transition the POWER RANGERS TV show between the ZEO and TURBO seasons. But this time, instead of Rita Repulsa and Ivan Ooze, we've got a cleavage-showing temptress named Divatox. Instead of Billy or Rocky wearing the Blue Ranger suit, we get an annoying little cute kid with a chili-bowl haircut. And instead of feeling like a movie, this sequel basically just looks and feels like a 99-minute long episode of the TV show, one which just might test your fond childhood memories of the Power Rangers. All I'm saying is, I think you may want to inject yourself with some "Mighty MORPHINE" to power through this flick. Ay-yi-yi, indeed!
