We interview Anne Hathaway and Nacho Vigalondo for Colossal

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

As a movie fan, there is nothing like walking in cold to a film and discovering something really inspired and fantastic. This happened for me with Anne Hathaway’s latest. COLOSSAL is a strange, original, and wonderfully inventive mix of a comedic drama about a woman trying to put her life back together with a little bit of genre thrown in. Yes, this is also a monster movie. Again, if you’ve watched the trailer you probably know more than you should. Yet even if you know a little, you are in for a great time with a terrific performance from Anne Hathaway. As inspired of an idea as this film is, it needed the perfect leading lady… they found her.

Yesterday, we sat down with both Ms. Hathaway and writer/director Nacho Vigalondo. She discussed the layers of the character of Gloria – possibly one of her best performances, which says a lot. She also opened up about really believing that the best way to watch it is knowing nothing – this interview is definitely spoiler free. Nacho talked about taking on serious themes in a genre film. It’s a delicate balance but he did a marvelous job. Does COLOSSAL get dark? Hell yes it does. Anne opened up about that yet was thrilled that the story still wears a smile even in the darkest of times. Yes I’ve been vague… Just see this flick. COLOSSAL opens this weekend and is worth seeking out. Frankly this is one  of the best things I’ve seen this year.
