Former Vice President Dick Cheney is one of the most mythical figures in all of politics, like a unicorn who engages in shady dealing and has a serious heart condition. Naturally a movie is being made about his life by Adam McKay, and said movie about the storied politician’s life just added three of the most beloved actors of our generation.
Reports are now saying that Oscar-winner Christian Bale, and nominees Steve Carell and Amy Adams are all in talks to join the Dick Cheney biopic, the former two having starred in McKay last film, THE BIG SHORT. Bale will be playing the lead role of Cheney while Carell will portray former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and Adams will play Dick’s wife, Lynne. Now try to picture them all in pounds of make-up, officially tarnishing your vision of them forever.
Word is that McKay hopes to start shooting this spring, in hopes of releasing it in time for awards season, much like he did on BIG SHORT. Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner will be producing the movie through Plan B, while McKay, Will Ferrell and Kevin Messick will join them through their Gary Sanchez label.
I actually joked about Carell joining the project as Cheney not long ago, so I guess my smart-ass-but-prophetic wordplay wasn’t too far off. Needless to say this has awards buzz written all over it. Bale will once again have to completely transform himself physically, going from handsome Hollywood leading man to Darth Vader if he walked around without all his gear. All-in-all between the three of them this is shaping up to be a great film that will at least have terrific performances going for it. How these actors will bring these enigmatic figures to life is now a big reason why I wanna see it…that, and to see what Bale would look like if he was cast as The Penguin.
The currently untitled movie is aiming to shoot soon in hopes for a late 2017 release.
