Tom Cruise Top Gun 2

It's been over thirty years since TOP GUN blasted into theaters, but it seems that fans are still feeling that need for speed. Talk of a sequel to the Tony Scott film has persisted for some time, with producer Jerry Bruckheimer saying that they've "been trying to make a sequel and we're not going to stop … what Tom tells me is that no matter where he goes in the world, people refer to him as Maverick. It's something he is excited about so as long as he keeps his enthusiasm hopefully we'll get it made." Now, it appears to be confirmed. While appearing on the Australian morning TV show Sunrise, Tom Cruise revealed that not only is TOP GUN 2 definitely going to happen, but that he'll probably start filming in the next year.

Here's hoping that Tom Cruise and company will be able to pull off that rare beast, the long-belated sequel which manages to equal, or even surpass, its predecessor. Jeff Sneider of The Tracking Board added that Jerry Bruckheimer and Paramount are currently looking at directors and that the sequel will "address modern warfare and Cruise's Maverick will take on drones/unmanned aircrafts." After the death of Tony Scott in 2012, I somewhat naively assumed that TOP GUN 2 would be shelved, but here we are. This isn't entirely official just yet, but should all go according to plan, it seems likely that Tom Cruise will get started on TOP GUN 2 once he completes his obligations with the upcoming MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6.

Are you folks down for TOP GUN 2?
