Jon Bernthal's portrayal of the brutal vigilante known as The Punisher was a definite highlight of Daredevil's second season, and it didn't take long for Marvel & Netflix to officially give Frank Castle his own standalone series. We knew that The Punisher was scheduled to be released in 2017, but now, we may be able to narrow that down a little more. While speaking with THR about her work on the third season of FX's Fargo, director Dearbhla Walsh was asked if shooting in Canada was her first time directing television in North America. Walsh replied that it wasn't as she had previously directed an episode of The Punisher and seemingly revealed when that series would debut.
One other time that hasn't been aired yet, which was an episode for the new Marvel series The Punisher, which I did just before Christmas, but it's not airing until November. I directed that in New York and edited in L.A., but this was my first directing experience in lovely Canada.
As this isn't official, we should probably take Walsh's statement with a grain of salt, but I certainly wouldn't be surprised if it were true.
Jon Bernthal will be joined by Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, but much of the cast of The Punisher will be new additions. Among them are Ben Barnes (THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA) as Billy Russo, Frank Castle's best friend from his days in the Special Forces who now runs a successful private military corporation called Anvil, Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Girls) as Micro, a former NSA analyst whose secrets may be of great value to Frank Castle and Amber Rose Revah (SON OF GOD) as Dinah Madani, a highly-trained sophisticated Homeland Security agent who is vexed by the Punisher.
