Corey Stoll & Kyle Chandler head to the moon for Damien Chazelle’s First Man

Following his Best Director win at the Academy Awards for LA LA LAND, I'd expect that all eyes will be on Damien Chazelle as he begins work on his next film, a Neil Armstrong biopic based upon James R. Hansen's "First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong". We already know that FIRST MAN will star Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong, but now it seems that Corey Stoll and Kyle Chandler will be joining him as well.

Per The Tracking Board, Corey Stoll is currently in talks to play Buzz Aldrin, the second man to step on the moon. Deadline also reports that Kyle Chandler is in talks to play Deke Slayton, one of the original Mercury Seven astronauts who later became Director of Flight Crew Operations at NASA. The Josh Singer script is being described as a "visceral, first-person account" which explores "the sacrifices and the cost — on Neil and on the nation — of one of the most dangerous missions in history." Knowing how it all shakes out won't effect the stakes, and with a compelling cast in place, FIRST MAN could represent another great NASA movie. Bring it on.

FIRST MAN isn't the only Damien Chazelle project in the works; THE CLAIM, a script which Chazelle wrote more than seven years ago, was dusted off following his LA LA LAND win and is being prepped for a 2018 release. Imagine that. The dark thriller follows a father with a criminal past, who, when searching for his missing daugther, must contend with another couple who claim that the child is theirs.
