Hey, raise your hand if you remember when, back at the beginning of June, I said, "My wish, now, is that the Wachowski's somehow find way to privately arrange contracts with the cast, and explore the idea of scheduling out time that would allow for them all to shoot a two hour finale-like film." Well, guess what, friends? Wishes really do come true, because, as of Thursday, it's been announced that Netflix will release a 2-hour finale for Lilly and Lana Wachowski's emotional powerhouse of a sci-fi series, SENSE8!
The most-welcomed news came by way of a letter from SENSE8 co-creator Lana Wachowski, who created the most recent second season of the sci-fi series after sister Lilly Wachowski stepped back from the project. The pair created the show with comic book creator J. Michael Straczynski.

In regard to the letter penned by Lana Wachowski, which detailed the show's triumphant return, it began with the words, "The outpouring of love and grief that came in the wake of the news that Sense8 would not be continuing was so intense, that I often found myself unable to open my own email. I confess I fell into a fairly serious. I had never worked so hard, or put so much of myself into a project as I had with Sense8 and its cancellation hollowed me out."
To fully appreciate the undertaking that is the SENSE8 series project, one must consider that the second season was filmed in 16 cities and 11 countries to capture the stories of its global cast. In short, it was a lot of footwork, and quite expensive to boot.
Lana continued her letter by saying, "As the characters in our show discover that they are not alone. I too have learned that I am not just a me. I am also a we," she said. "While it is often true that these decisions are irreversible, it is not always true." Then in a nod to all of the SENSE8 fans who fought so hard to ressureect the show, after its premature cancellation, Lana stated, "Improbably, unforeseeably, your love has brought Sense8 back to life."

Concerning the show's cancelation, Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos said, "They did a beautiful show" and “the audience was very passionate, but not large enough to support the economics of something that big, even on our platform." Unfortunately, the cancelation of shows like SENSE8 (as well as others) always comes down to the almighty dollar, and the numbers just weren't there for SENSE8. Hopefully, now that the stellar and progressive program is getting a proper finale, the show will find new viewership in those who like for their shows to not end on such a ridiculous cliffhanger.
Personally, I'm overjoyed by this news, as SENSE8 is one of my favorite TV series of all-time. I've laughed and cried along with my wife to SENSE8 more than any other program in years, and I simply cannot recommend it enough.
The series finale of SENSE8 is expected to air on Netflix sometime next year. Huzzah!
