Ron Perlman refuses to cameo in new Hellboy film

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Fans of the Perlman/Del Toro HELLBOY movies were left crushed and dismayed when it was announced the series was getting a reboot, HELLBOY: RISE OF THE BLOOD QUEEN, from Neil Marshall with David Harbour in the lead role. Though said fans have yet to really recuperate, Ron Perlman has passed his blessings unto Harbour and the crew, wishing them well in their endeavors. However, the actor has his limit, and he made that limit known on Twitter.

The actor was asked by a fan yesterday if he would consider doing a cameo in the new movie, as a way paying homage to the earlier films. Perlman responded with what may be the most badass pun of all time:

Perlman has expressed sadness over not getting to finish the HELLBOY trilogy, with the second film, HELLBOY: THE GOLDEN ARMY, marking his final appearance as the character. Though he doesn’t seem to have a grudge against the new team, he doesn’t seem down for lending himself to the reboot, preferring to let them make their own movie over living in the past.

The movie is gearing up to be a hard R-rated version that will be darker and more gruesome than previous installments, and Ian McShane joined the project recently as Professor Trevor “Broom” Bruttenholm.

I’m sure some fans would get a kick out of seeing Perlman pop up somewhere, but the actor is making a smart move by staying away. The time has come to move on from the role, and for die-hard fans of the first two movies, a cameo could be more of a punch in the stomach than a playful wink. Reminding them of the third movie they’ll never get isn’t wise when you’re trying to do your own thing.

HELLBOY: RISE OF THE BLOOD QUEEN is aiming for a 2018 release.
