It's been a hot, atomic-fire-breathing minute since we've received any updates from the set of Michael Dougherty's GODZILLA. Then, after promising fans that the new film would indeed share a connection with the original, Dougherty took to his Twitter account to share a photo from the 69th day of filming for the new Godzilla film. In the photo, we can spy what looks like a cockpit, with a wireframe image of the Lizard King himself on a screen in the background. Could it be that a fierce image of the city-stompin' behemoth is a more fitting a visual reference than an angry-looking tennis ball on a stick? I would imagine so.

Directed by TRICK 'R TREAT's Michael Dougherty, the Godzilla sequel stars Vera Farmiga (THE CONJURING), Ken Wantanabe (INCEPTION) and Sally Hawkins (THE SHAPE OF WATER), both reprising their roles from the 2014 GODZILLA reboot, as well as Kyle Chandler (SUPER 8) and Millie Bobby Brown (STRANGER THINGS). Also set to appear in the thick of all this monster madness is Bradley Whitford (CABIN IN THE WOODS), Thomas Middleditch (KONG: SKULL ISLAND), Charles Dance (LAST ACTION HERO), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (INGRID GOES WEST), Aisha Hinds (SHOTS FIRED), and Zhang Ziyi (MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA).
The next chapter in Warner Bros. Pictures' and Legendary Pictures' cinematic MonsterVerse: an epic action adventure that pits Godzilla against some of the most popular monsters in pop culture history. Doughtery will direct in addition to writing the script with Zach Shields. For the moment, the film is scheduled for a March 2019 release, and will arrive in 3D and 2D formats as well as there being a larger-than-life presentation on select IMAX screens.
