Jon Bernthal befriends a killer in Sweet Virginia trailer

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

That Jon Bernthal is one hard-working dude. In the span of four years, the actor has appeared in some truly memorable movies, such as Martin Scorsese's THE WOLF OF WALL STREET, David Ayer's FURY, and Denis Villeneuve's SICARIO, and in the past year alone, Bernthal has been credited in five films: WIND RIVER, BABY DRIVER, SHOT CALLER, PILGRIMAGE, and SWEET VIRGINIA. The last film finds Jon Bernthal starring as a motel owner with a dark past named Sam, who unknowingly begins a rapport with a young hitman (Christopher Abbott) responsible for a spate of violence which has suddenly gripped his small town. The recently released trailer for SWEET VIRGINIA certainly paints the picture of a tense thriller, as well as gives you another reason to jump aboard the Jon Bernthal band-wagon. Imogen Poots (GREEN ROOM) and Rosemarie DeWitt (LA LA LAND) also star.

The official synopsis for SWEET VIRGINIA:

A mysterious stranger sends shockwaves through a close-knit community in this nerve-jangling slice of raw suspense. In the wake of a triple murder that leaves the residents of a remote Alaskan outpost on edge, tightly wound drifter Elwood (Christopher Abbott) checks into a motel run by Sam (Jon Bernthal), a former rodeo champion whose imposing physical presence conceals a troubled soul. Bound together by their outsider status, the two men strike up an uneasy friendship—a dangerous association that will set off a new wave of violence and unleash Sam’s darkest demons.

SWEET VIRGINIA will hit theaters on November 17, 2017.
