Evan Peters enters a hidden world in The Pirates of Somalia trailer

In order to make a splash as a journalist, sometimes you need to do something a little crazy, such as visiting Somalia and living with a bunch of pirates. That's exactly what Jay Bahadur set out to do after being told to avoid studying journalism in school and to instead gain experience by working as a freelancer in "crazy places." The young journalist did just that as he dared to make his way into the remote havens of the Somalia pirates and spent a year infiltrating their lives. Upon returning, Bahadur wrote "The Pirates of Somalia: Inside Their Hidden World" which has now been turned into a feature-film starring Evan Peters, Al Pacino, Barkhad Abdi, and Melanie Griffith, and you can catch a trailer for the Bryan Buckley film above. Living the dream.

A synopsis of "The Pirates of Somalia: Inside Their Hidden World" via Amazon:

For centuries, stories of pirates have captured imaginations around the world. The recent ragtag bands of pirates off the coast of Somalia, hijacking multimillion-dollar tankers owned by international shipping conglomerates, have brought the scourge of piracy into the modern era. Jay Bahadur’s riveting narrative exposé—the first of its kind—looks at who these men are, how they live, the forces that created piracy in Somalia, how the pirates spend the ransom money, how they deal with their hostages, among much, much more. It is a revelation of a dangerous world at the epicenter of political and natural disaster.

PIRATES OF SOMALIA will hit theaters on December 8, 2017.
