Community was never exactly a ratings hit, so it's somewhat miraculous that the Dan Harmon TV series revolving around a group of misfits at Greendale Community College actually made it to its sixth season, bringing Community fans' dream of "six seasons and a movie" even closer. The sixth and final season of the series came to an end over two years ago, and the talented cast have gone on to headline their own projects, but, Dan Harmon remains optimistic that the Community movie will happen.
While speaking with The Wrap, Dan Harmon revealed that he's been talking with Justin Lin (STAR TREK BEYOND) about making the Community movie a reality. "I keep having conversations with the kinds of people that could make it happen," Harmon said. "The Russo brothers moved from ‘Community’ to becoming industry shapers. So did one of our most popular directors, Justin Lin, who directed the first paintball episode." Harmon added that Justin Lin "in particular has always been jazzed about the idea of doing a ‘Community’ movie." Although he hopes that he's not "talking out of school" by saying it, Dan Harmon said that he gets together with Justin Lin every once and while for dinner, during which they attempt to "figure out how to do this."
Those are the kinds of guys, the Russos, plus Justin, plus a humble little me — maybe there is a way to secure the money and the momentum to make something happen. But fingers crossed — don’t want to jinx it.
It might prove to be a minor miracle to assemble Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, Donald Glover, Ken Jeong, Chevy Chase, and Jim Rash all together, but McHale told Live105 in August that he "think's we're all up for it," adding that "if Dan writes it, there’s a world where that would happen."
Place your bets. What are the chances that the Community movie actually moves forward?
