If you listen closely, you'll likely still be able to hear the echoes of a celebratory roar let out by Star Wars fans, when it was announced that STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI writer/director Rian Johnson would be helming a brand-new trilogy for the timeless sci-fi space opera. With the promise of introducing the world to new characters, locales, and stories stemming from Lucasfilm's famed franchise, fans have been left speculating as to what Johnson's vision may or may not include.
Recently, during a press event in Mexico for STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI, Johnson talked briefly about his plans for the forthcoming trilogy by saying, "We're gonna have to see. I'm just in the very beginning of starting to come up with what the new trilogy is going to be," said Johnson. He then added to his statement by declaring, "What makes me so excited about it, is the idea of doing a new story on the big canvas of three movies in this world," Johnson said. "There's just so much potential and I can't wait to jump into it."
As per the arrangement for the new trilogy, Johnson will write and direct the first installment, and will serve as a producer on all three films alongside Ram Bergman, a longtime collaborator and friend of the in-demand director. “We had the time of our lives collaborating with Lucasfilm and Disney on The Last Jedi,” Johnson and Bergman said in a joint statement. “Star Wars is the greatest modern mythology and we feel very lucky to have contributed to it. We can’t wait to continue with this new series of films.”
