Natalie Portman joins Jude Law for Vox Lux, a Brady Corbet-helmed drama

Bold Films announced today that they're collaborating with Andrew Lauren Productions to finance and produce VOX LUX, a music-related drama from Brady Corbet (THE CHILDHOOD OF A LEADER) starring Natalie Portman and Jude Law.

Written and directed by Corbet, VOX LUX follows the rise of 'Celeste' from the ashes of a major national tragedy to pop superstardom. This 15-year odyssey, set between 1999 and the present day, tracks the important cultural evolution of the 21st Century through Celeste’s eyes. Start of principal photography is slated for February 1st in New York City.

As you might recall, Rooney Mara was once scheduled to lead the film, though since dropping out to persue other projects, Portman will now act in her stead. The soundtrack for VOX LUX will feature all original songs written by the enigmatic and Grammy-nominated artist Sia. ALP’s Andrew Lauren and D.J. Gugenheim will produce while also representing the project's international rights in addition to shopping the movie around Berlin.

In talking about Portman coming aboard the film, Bold Films Chairman Michel Litvak gave a statement saying, “We are thrilled to welcome such a stellar actress as Natalie Portman to the cast."

Following Litvak's statement, ALP principal Andrew Lauren stated, "I was mesmerized by the scope and vision of Brady’s first film, Childhood of a Leader.  I don’t think Brady is of this century. His work is more reminiscent of a Sergei Eisenstein or Fritz Lang. When you sit with him, his encyclopedic knowledge of film is intimidating and his passion is infectious.”

Of course, you can catch Natalie Portman when next she stars in Alex Garland's ANNIHILATION, an exploratory sci-fi thriller packed with terrifying creatures from another dimension. The film opens in theaters on February 22nd, and judging from the trailer, looks pretty frickin' sweet.
