DMG takes ownership of Valiant Comics, plans cinematic universe expansion

Nowadays, it feels like everyone is looking to get in on the cinematic comic book game. First, Disney bought Marvel, and now, DMG Entertainment's Dan Mintz has assumed full control over Valiant Comics. As an independent publisher of comic books and graphic novels, with a pantheon of over 2,000 characters, Marvel and DC could soon be in for a bit of stiff competition at the box office. Granted, Valiant doesn't have pop culture heroes like Batman, Spider-Man, or Wonder Woman. However, what they do have, absolutely, is an ultra-dedicated fanbase, who've been waiting for far-too-long to see their favorite characters arrive on the big or small screen.

For the moment, Mintz's plan of action is to marry the Valiant IP with DMG, which would allow for the publisher to have access to both money and filmmaking power unlike anything they've experienced before. The deal is a major boon for Valiant, who for years have been cultivating the third largest (connected) universe in comics, next to Marvel and DC, of course. With DMG's fully-loaded arsenal of support, Valiant can look to present characters like X-O Manowar, Bloodshot, Harbinger, Shadowman, Archer & Armstrong, Ninjak, Faith and others in new and exciting ways unlike the world has ever seen before.

In talking about the acquisition, Mintz, whose maintained a stake in Valiant Comics since 2014 said, “Our priority is to build upon Valiant’s vast universe of characters from a filmmaker’s perspective. I’m excited to immerse Valiant’s fans well beyond the stories we tell cinematically — from publishing to gaming to theme parks and beyond.”

For the moment, Valiant creatives are hard at work developing major motion pictures based on the characters BLOODSHOT (with Vin Diesel looking to star) and the mutant-like superhero team HARBINGER. In regard to television projects, a series based on Valiant's unlikely superhero duo, QUANTUM AND WOODY, is currently in development with The Russo Brothers attached to produce via their Getaway Productions label. Additionally, a show based on THE DEATH-DEFYING DOCTOR MIRAGE, entitled DR. MIRAGE, is being set up with CBS Studios and The CW.

Other projects that are being considered at this time are adaptations of Shadowman, Archer & Armstrong, Eternal Warrior, and X-O Manowar. Hey, Valiant, can we get a series based on Faith over here or what? You could introduce her as a part of Archer & Armstrong, and then launch a spinoff based on her adventures. I'm just saying, both Marvel and DC slept on the solo-female-led superhero front for a long time; why not come out of the gate swinging and set a positive example?
