Trailer for Duncan Jones’ Mute invites you to a Berlin overrun by gangsters

Love will make you do crazy things. And in the case of Duncan Jones' latest sci-fi thriller, a man who cannot speak will stop at nothing to find his missing girlfriend in a Berlin metropolis where danger lurks within every alleyway and neon cuts through the night sky like a luminescent knife.

It's been a full year since Netflix released a first look at MUTE, a film that's taken Jones nearly 12 years to complete. Serving as an homage to Ridley Scott's BLADE RUNNER, and a "spiritual sequel" to Jone's MOON, the WARCRAFT director's passion project is finally complete, and will be making its Netflix debut come Februaary 23rd.

Here is the official synopsis for MUTE:

Berlin, the future, but close enough to feel familiar: In this loud, often brutal city, Leo (Alexander Skarsgård) – unable to speak from a childhood accident – searches for his missing girlfriend, the love of his life, his salvation, through dark streets, frenzied plazas, and the full spectrum of the cities shadow-dwellers. As he seeks answers, Leo finds himself mixed up with Cactus Bill (Paul Rudd) and Duck (Justin Theroux), a pair of irreverent US army surgeons on a mission all their own. This soulful sci-fi journey from filmmaker Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code, Warcraft) imagines a world of strange currencies in which echoes of love and humanity are still worth listening to.

The film, which was originally intended to be Jones' directorial debut, stars Alexander Skarsgard, Paul Rudd (who's rockin' a severe handlebar mustache), Justin Theroux, Seyneb Saleh, Gilbert Owuor, Robert Sheehan, Nikki Lamborn, Noel Clark, Daniel Fathers, and Florence Kasumba.

Upon learning that Netflix would help Jones to make his long-gestating passion project, the SOURCE CODE director said,  “Netflix, these crazy new kids on the block, had this totally crazy philosophy on film making straight out of the 70s,” said Jones. “Don’t make 4 quad ‘please everyone’ homogeneous blobs! Make films filmmakers are passionate about & let the audience find them! I’ve been working towards making Mute for 12 years nowI cannot tell you how thrilled I am that we’re finally going to shoot this utterly unique film…The fact that I get to make it with Alexander Skarsgard and Paul Rudd makes it all the more exciting! Mute is a film that will last. It is unlike any other science fiction being made today."
