Earlier this afternoon, BREAKING BAD actor Bryan Cranston announced to all of his fans that he's done signing autographs, from here on out. The personal message comes via Cranston's official Twitter account, which you can see for yourself below:
Friends,
After 18 years of signing everything for fans – I’m retiring. Overwhelmed by requests and I just can’t do it anymore.
I love meeting fans and will personalize pix in person, but that’s all. Thanks for your understanding. See you on the street – we’ll take a selfie! Bryan— Bryan Cranston (@BryanCranston) February 1, 2018
While some fans will be disappointed that their plans to have the ISLE OF DOGS actor scribble his John Handcock on their MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE BOXSET or Limited Edition bag of Blue Meth Rock Candy, Cranston does make a point of letting people know that he's still down to pose for a selfie, when the opportunity presents itself.
If you stop and think about it, Cranston's move to opt out of signing memorabilia (or body parts for that matter) is an understandable one. For starters, a select group of fans will often request to have something signed that could be considered as inappropriate. This situation can easily land a celebrity in trouble, particularly in today's social media-ready climate. Furthermore, signing an object, then seeing it posted for sale on a site like Ebay can be rather disheartening. Here you are thinking that you're creating a moment with someone, and then, you see that the interaction you'd shared was just a ploy for that disingenuous person to make a quick buck. Don't get me wrong, there are lots of cool stories in which people have things signed and then cherish that object until their dying day; I'm just saying that I can see why Cranston would want to hang up the practice.
Do you have anything signed by Bryan Cranston? Are you disappointed that the Heisenberg action you've been saving will never bear his signature, now? Let us know in the comments section below.
