Late last month, two behind-the-scenes photos from the set of AVENGERS 4 were leaked online that showed Brie Larson, who will soon enter the MCU as Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel, wearing a suit that rung unfamiliar with those used to her current Jamie McKelvie-designed look. And because the internet is the internet, it took no time at all for people to start posting their knee-jerk reactions to the black, green, and silver Kree-inspired bodysuit. It was yet another crowning moment for the uninformed, and now, Marvel Visual Development Supervisor and artist Andy Park has come forward to offer some choice words to Comicbook.com about the kerfuffle.
"I think it's always funny seeing people's reactions," Park says in regard to the over-reaction to Carol's suit in the leaked photos.
"People are so ready to jump on and to react and make decisions so quickly. I would just say I would hope that they would just know from the past that judging too quickly is … How do I word this? They're going to be happy. I think they're going to be happy."
Park then added the following to his statement "I mean, Kevin Feige said it in an interview. We revealed the concept art that I did, myself and other artists did, of Captain Marvel at last year's San Diego Comic-Con, so I mean, I think that alone should hopefully alleviate some of those fears that people have."
While I totally cop to the fact that I did not put the pieces together that Carol was indeed wearing one of her old school Kree-derived suits in the photos, I was confident that what we were looking at was merely a prototype of what was to come. From a marketing perspective alone, it makes total sense for Captain Marvel to be sporting her now-iconic red, blue, and yellow suit, seeing as that's how she's portrayed in her most recent comic book adventures.

In wrapping up his comments about the costume, Park told the outlet that "it's too early to judge," and that he thinks fans will be pleased with Captain Marvel's official costume reveal.
"I remember early on when people … saw the [Thor: Ragnarok] trailer, there were some fans angry 'cause they're like, 'Why is Hulk wearing armor?' It's kind of ridiculous to get angry about it without knowing the reason why, 'cause obviously there's a reason why," Park stated.
"He's not wearing it to protect himself because he needs the protection. He's wearing it because he's a showman, and he's loving that people love him and worship him, so he's playing it up. Not only that, he wore it because that's what he also looked like in the [Planet] Hulk, right, in the Hulk storyline, so it's kind of a nod to that look, as well. There's always a reason why they look the way they do," Park concluded.
With any luck we'll be eyeing an official look at Brie Larson in all of her "properly costumed" glory real soon. In the mean time, we'll just have to wait until CAPTAIN MARVEL flies higher, faster, further, and more in theaters on March 8, 2019.
