Word has come in that legendary actors Helen Mirren and Sir Ian McKellen will be teaming up with DREAMGIRLS and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST director Bill Condon for THE GOOD LIAR, a new thriller hailing from Bron Creative, a division of Bron Studios, and New Line.
The project is set to be an adaptation Nicholas Searle's novel of the same name featuring a mysterious game of cat-and-mouse. When the story opens, we're introduced to career con artist Roy Courtnay, (McKellen) who can’t resist one last score when he meets well-to-do widow Betty McLeish (Mirren) online. As the woman opens her home and life to him, the man is surprised to find himself caring about her, turning what should be a cut-and-dry swindle into a treacherous tightrope walk as not all is what is seems.
Well hot damn, that sounds enticing to me! In addition to directing the film, Condon will also produce alongside Greg Yolen (THE FIFTH ESTATE). Furthermore, THE GOOD LIAR project now marks the fourth collaboration between Condon and McKellen, who in the past have teamed for the following list of films: GODS AND MONSTERS, MR. HOLMES, and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.
We'll bring you more news regarding THE GOOD LIAR when it becomes available. In the meantime, what do you think of the plot for this story? Is the promise of some McKellen and Mirren on-screen chemistry enough to get you to check out a trailer when it drops? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
