Warner Bros. sets Sherlock Holmes 3 for a 2020 release

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

The game is afoot…again. Warner Bros. has finally made the third film in Robert Downey Jr.'s SHERLOCK HOLMES franchise official by giving the long-awaited sequel a release date. That's the good news. The bad news is that we still have a bit of a wait ahead of us.

Warner Bros. has given SHERLOCK HOLMES 3 a December 25, 2020 release, and although there's no official word that Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law will be reprising their roles of Sherlock and Watson, it's probably a good bet that they will. It's also unknown whether Guy Ritchie, who directed both SHERLOCK HOLMES and SHERLOCK HOLMES: A GAME OF SHADOWS, will be back for the third outing, but that would also be a good bet. Someone get me to Vegas. That Christmas 2020 release puts SHERLOCK HOLMES 3 just a few days after the release of AVATAR 2 on December 18th, which just so happens to follow the same pattern of the release of the original films in both franchises back in 2009, right down to the dates. Narcos co-creator Chris Brancato is set to pen the script. Although A GAME OF SHADOWS didn't quite thrill me to the same degree that the first film did, it was still a huge amount of fun, and I'm more than excited for the gang to get back together for another mystery.

Robert Downey Jr. is currently in the midst of production on THE VOYAGE OF DOCTOR DOLITTLE, which is set for a April 12, 2019 release, and will also be back for AVENGERS 4 on May 3, 2019. Busy guy.
