Things are about to take a turn for the weird, now that DOOM PATROL has received a 13-episode order for a live-action series on DC Universe, the upcoming digital streaming service from DC Entertainment. The classic comic book series features an eclectic group of superheroes: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl and Crazy Jane, who’re ushered into a plethora of otherworldly adventures by order of Dr. Niles Caulder. As a part of their origin, each member of the team was given their powers courtesy of unspeakable accidents, leaving them disfigured and haunted by questions related to their own identity. In recent times, DOOM PATROL was rebooted by My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way and artist Nick Derington for the Young Animal comic book imprint.
When DOOM PATROL arrives on DC Universe, it will come by way of FREQUENCY showrunner Jeremy Carver and Berlanti Productions. It’s also being said that the 13-episode program will act as a follow-up to the first DC Universe series presentation, TITANS. The show will also be featured a part of DC’s announced lineup for the service, which includes the shows: HARLEY QUINN, SWAMP THING, YOUNG JUSTICE, and METROPOLIS.
In looking back at the creation of DOOM PATROL, you’ll discover that the oddball group made their debut in the pages of My Greatest Adventure in 1963. The team was crafted by writers Arnold Drake and Bob Haney with artist Bruno Premiani, who each played a pivotal role in giving depth, imagination, and delightfully twisted backstories to the classic cult characters.
Just shut up and take my money, DC! I’ve been waiting for you to dig deeper into the stranger corners of your pantheon, and I’m hoping that you take full advantage of DOOM PATROL’s wacky cast of characters and the truly bizarre world they inhabit. DOOM PATROL will likely bring the strange to DC Universe in 2019.
