Time to break out the cape! There have been rumblings about Billy Dee Williams reprising his role of Lando Calrissian for STAR WARS: EPISODE IX for some time, and now it finally appears as though it's true. THR has reported that Williams will indeed be back in action for the upcoming J.J. Abrams film, which is intended to conclude the sequel trilogy which began with THE FORCE AWAKENS.
It's been a little curious that both STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS and STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI passed by with scarcely a mention of Lando Calrissian, but it will be nice that STAR WARS: EPISODE IX will include a living Star Wars legacy character after all. Despite Calrissian's absence from the both of those movies, the character was a major presence in SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY where he was portrayed by Donald Glover. It's been confirmed that Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, and Adam Driver will return for EPISODE IX, and just last week Keri Russell (DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES) entered early talks for a role in the film. Exactly what that role could be is naturally mysterious, but it's said that the role will call for action-heavy fight scenes. Production on STAR WARS: EPISODE IX is expected to get underway near the end of the month.
STAR WARS: EPISODE IX will hit theaters on December 20, 2019.
