Laura Dern in talks to join the cast of Greta Gerwig’s Little Women

Oh boy, should I cue the JURASSIC PARK theme for this story? Perhaps "Holdo's Resolve" from Rian Johnson's STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is more fitting? Actually, now that I think about it, neither appears to match the tone and tenor of the latest news centered around Greta Gerwig's LITTLE WOMEN. I suppose that I should quit playing DJ and just get to the goods, eh?

In an effort to pack the latest film adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's 1868 classic novel with more stars than the night's sky, Sony has announced (via THR) that WILD and BLUE VELVET alumna Laura Dern is in talks to join Meryl Streep, Emma Stone, Timothée Chalamet, Eliza Scanlen, and Saoirse Ronan for the upcoming film. As you may know, the story of LITTLE WOMEN follows sisters Amy, Jo, Beth and Meg and their mother in Civil War-era Massachusetts as they experience strife, first loves and Christmas without their father.

In addition to directing the film, Gerwig has also penned the screenplay for what's sure to be a dramatic tale of sisterhood and self-discovery. Producing the feature is Sony's Amy Pascal, who will be joined in her efforts by Denise Di Novi and Robin Swicord.

Back in 1994, Winona Ryder, Christian Bale, Susan Sarandon and Kirsten Dunst starred in director Gillian Armstrong's adaptation of the story, which had been nominated for three Academy Awards including Best Actress for Winona Ryder, Best Costume Design for Colleen Atwood, and Best Original Score for composer Thomas Newman.

It goes without saying that Dern would make for a fine addition to the film, which already boasts a growing list of impressive talent and then some. If checking out Gerwig's version of LITTLE WOMEN is your bag, be sure to stay close as more news concerning the film comes to light.
