The CW has announced that DC's bald badass and constant thorn in Superman's side, Lex Luthor, is officially making his way to the Arrowverse. Much to the delight of fans across the globe, we now know that the nefarious billionaire genius will arrive courtesy of SUPERGIRL's fourth season, which premiered just days ago on October 14th.
“We’re beyond excited to introduce iconic villain, Lex Luthor, to Supergirl and to weave him into our story this season,” said executive producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller said in a joint statement.
As you're likely to be aware, Lex has been name-dropped several times on SUPERGIRL, particularly since the arrival of his sister Lena (Katie McGrath) – who plays one of Kara's (Melissa Benoist) closest friends for the superhero serial drama – as well as his plotting mother Lillian (Brenda Strong). As a mysterious character of the Arrowverse, Lex is framed as a friend to Clark Kent, before becoming the sworn enemy of Superman and being sent to prison. As a result of his incarceration, Lena took possession of Lex Corp, re-branded it to L Corp, and made admirable strides to course-correct the company's tarnished image. It wasn't long after Lex got wind of Lena's efforts that he tried to have her killed, though his attempt was thwarted by an ever-ready Supergirl.
“We’re beyond excited to introduce iconic villain, Lex Luthor, to Supergirl and to weave him into our story this season,” said executive producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller in a statement. “We’ve talked about having Lex on the show since it’s inception and we’re excited to have him finally arrive. We can’t wait for him to shake things up in National City and watch him go toe to toe with not only Supergirl, but his sister Lena Luthor.”
For the moment, no casting announcements have been made for the part of Lex Luthor, nor are we aware of when the villain will be making his SUPERGIRL debut. Of course, the last person to play the malevolent money-hungry mischief maker was Michael Rosenbaum for the Superman-centric show SMALLVILLE. Now, it's anyone's guess as to who will step up to play the mech-suited maniac with an axe to grind. Do you have any ideas?
