Stop me if you've heard this one: A disgraced priest, a legendary demon hunter, and a modern day superhero walk into a bar …
Alright, you've got me. This isn't a joke, it's the premise for DIABLERO, a new horror series set to make its way to Netflix beginning on December 21st. Produced by Morena Films, DIABLERO is an upcoming Mexican television web series based on the book El Diablo me obligó by author Francisco Haghenbeck.
This frightfully cool-looking show centers on three would-be heroes – Father Ramiro Ventura, a priest seeking redemption as well as the aid of legendary demon hunter who goes by the name Elvis Infante. Along with their superhero partner, Nancy Gama, the trio seek to defend those around them from an oncoming apocalypse led by demons, cultists, and all of the drooling, sharp-toothed monsters that go bump in the night. Starring in DIABLERO are Quetzalli Cortés, Horacio Garcia Rojas, and Cassandra Iturrandra, among others.
Here's the tagline for DIABLERO:
“Before angels had abandoned Mexico City, there was a balance between good and evil. Now that they have left, its citizens have fallen in hands of the demons. Fortunately, a group of people AKA Diableros emerged to protect them.”
For me, the trailer gives off a BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER meets DYLAN DOG: DEAD OF NIGHT kind of vibe, which is more than enough to have me tuning in when the show makes its Netflix debut on December 21st. Honestly, who doesn't love dark magic battles, steel cage demon fights to the death, and tequila? Bring it on!
