Described as ROMEO & JULIET meets GRAVITY, Deadline reports that John Boyega (STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI) and Letitia Wright (AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR) are attached to star in HOLD BACK THE STARS, an adaptation of the Katie Khan novel of the same name.
Set to be directed by Mike Cahill and written by Christy Hall, HOLD BACK THE STARS revolves around "a man and a woman who revisit memories of their love affair on a utopian Earth while they are trapped in the vast void of space with only 90 minutes of oxygen left." Sounds interesting, particularly with John Boyega and Letitia Wright taking the lead. Mike Cahill has previously helmed ANOTHER EARTH and I ORIGINS, but has also directed episodes of The Path, Rise, The Magicians, as well as the upcoming Nightflyers. Christy Hall doesn't yet have any produced screenwriting credits to her name, but one project which she has in development also happens to include a STAR WARS actor. Daisy Ridley was attached to star in DADDIO last year, which was scripted by Hall and "follows a woman who is picked up by a cab at JFK airport and driven to her apartment in Manhattan. On the way there, the woman and cabdriver begin discussing their past and current relationships and the effects those relationships have had on their lives."
A synopsis of "Hold Back the Stars" via Amazon:
Trapped in the vast void of space, Carys and Max have only ninety minutes of oxygen left to live. None of this was supposed to happen. After a freak accident, Carys and Max are left adrift in space with nothing to hold onto but each other. As they fall, they can’t help but look back at the world they left behind: a world whose rules they couldn’t submit to, a place where they never really belonged; a home they’re determined to get back to because they’ve come too far to lose each other now. While their air ticks dangerously low, one is offered the chance of salvation—but who will take it?
John Boyega will next be seen in STAR WARS: EPISODE IX on December 20, 2019, while Letitia Wright will be reprising her role of Shuri for AVENGERS 4 on May 3, 2019.
