Attention Audiophiles, Alfonso Cuarón has announced the track list and release date for “Music Inspired by the Film Roma,” which is not to be mistaken for “Roma (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack).” The upcoming album release, curated by Cuarón, will feature a diverse lineup of musical artists such as Beck, EL-P, DJ Shadow, Laura Marling, T Bone Burnett, Billie Eilish, Jessie Reyez, as well as the legendary Patti Smith. Co-produced by the Oscar nominated feature film's music supervisor, Lynn Fainchtein, and Randall Poster, yet another esteemed member of the film and music community, the "Inspired By" album is set to feature English-speaking songs, in addition to the albums other offerings.
Joining other notable names on the album is Cuarón's own daughter, Bu Cuarón, who at just 16-years-old delivers the "synth-heavy, electro-pop gem” titled “PSYCHO”. Another tantalizing track on the album comes from folk rocker Beck, whose "Tarantula" is an inspired re-tooling of the 1982 track by the group Colourbox. For the atmospheric song, Beck is accompanied by a 24-piece orchestra led by Beck’s renowned arranger father, David Campbell.
You can listen to Beck's "Tarantula" for yourself below:
One track that fans might recognize from the original motion picture soundtrack is "Those Were the Days," a cover of Mary Hopkins' 1968 hit re-created as an easy-listening jam by American bandleader Ray Conniff. On the new album, British folk singer Laura Marling presents another version of the tune, complete with her laid back vocals and winding instrumentation. It's a real treat for those of us who're just looking to kick back and whittle some.
