Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark conjures up new Teaser Poster

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK is being adapated from the o.g. Alvin Schwartz/Stephen Gammell's children's horror novel collection into a live action film, as overseen by Guillermo del Toro. What a time to be alive — especially if you're a horror fan. Director Andrè Øvredal is helming the project, better known as the man who brought us THE AUTOPSY OF JANE DOE, a movie that this writer would argue is one of the scariest films of the past decade (and is currently streaming on Netflix!). This would also be a great point to remind anyone who hasn't seen Øvredal's 2010 Norwegian dark fantasy thriller TROLLHUNTER to do so immediately.

The good people at CBS Films released a brand new teaser poster for the upcoming SCARY STORIES adaptation, featuring a wicked creepy scarecrow stewing miserably in a corn field, his straw-filled chest all hollowed out.

An obvious nod to the "Harold" short story that appears in the book, it looks like at least one part of the film will feature the infamous homidical scarecrow peeling the flesh off of unlucky farmers, and anyone else foolish enough to cross his path.

Hoo boy. It's a tricky balance, not overhyping a film that looks so ridiculously promising, while at the same time allowing oneself to build up anticipation for the miraculous meeting of minds that this gift has bestowed upon the world.

SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK follows a group of young teens who must solve the mystery surrounding sudden and macabre deaths in their small town. Penned for the screen by Dan Hageman & Kevin Hageman from a story by del Toro, the cast includes Zoe Colletti, Michael Garza, Gabriel RushAustin Abrams, Dean Norris, Gil BellowsLorraine Toussaint, Austin Zajur, and Natalie Ganzhorn. The film is produced by Guillermo del Toro, Sean Daniel, Jason F. Brown, J. Miles Dale and Elizabeth Grave.

SCARY STORIES TO TELL IN THE DARK lands in theaters on August 9th, 2019
