Best Movie & TV Trailers of the Week – The Act, NOS4A2, Aladdin

Hello and welcome to the best movie & TV trailers of the week!

First up we have a brand new teaser for the upcoming live action remake of ALADDIN, which…is something. When the first images were dropped for the reimagining, everyone complained that Will Smith's Genie wasn't blue. Now, it looks like Disney is seeking to fix that little problem, but the result is so nightmarish that it's led to a slew of memes and even more folks that are Mad Online. I'm sure the top execs at the house of mouse are dumbfounded, but that doesn't make their cursed Fruit Gusher look any less appealing. Honestly, every teaser so far for this film so far has been a little lacking. It makes you wonder why they even bothered bringing the beloved little animated musical to life in the first place.

In happier news, there's a new TV spot for DETECTIVE PIKACHU, which looks downright adorable. I never thought I would find myself saying that a CG version of the card game I used to play as a little girl would turn out to be one of my most anticipated films ofthe year, and yet, here we are. Whether or not my enthusiasm is heightened by the fact that this computer generated graphic looks so much better than its Disney competitor is still unknown at this time.

THE HUSTLE looks like a spectacular spin on the old men-as-fashionable-con-artists gag while providing some very meta humor, and TEEN SPIRIT is one that I'll definitely be checking out. Of course, I've been pretty obsessed with Elle Fanning ever since her NEON DEMON days, so I would probably be down to catch her in any upcoming projects.

Next up we have TV trailers. The tragically underrated Sarah Adina Smith (THE MIDNIGHT SWIM, BUSTER'S MAL HEART) is directing two episodes of the Amazon series HANNA, so I would highly recommend everyone check it out when it airs on March 29th, 2019.  Based on her previous work and all of the teasers presented thus far, it looks like this show is not to be missed.

There's also a brand new teaser for AMC's upcoming adaptation of NOS4A2. Honestly, this show has me a little worried. Joe Hill is one of my favorite authors and NOS4A2 is one of my favorite novels, and I'm not so sure it will fare well on a TV channel as restricted as AMC. It's really meant more for something with a little more breathing room, like HBO. I'm also not thrilled at the idea of Zachary Quinto playing the infamous Charlie Manx, a complex villain that requires someone with a performance that's a little less straight forward, and really, a little bit older than the 41 year-old AMERICAN HORROR STORY star. This casting decision feels a little less on-the-nose and a little more on-the-money, if I may be so frank. However, Ashleigh Cummings was incredible in HOUNDS OF LOVE, so I'm sure she'll kill it as the Brat. I just wish the show was being led by someone other than the man who gave us FEAR THE WALKING DEAD. I'm afraid this may be pretty generic.

There's also new peeks at CATCH 22, THE SANTA CLARIA DIET season 3, WARRIOR, SUPER HERO GIRLS, THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY, SHRILL, DOOM PATROL, THE ENEMY WITHIN, and CATASTROPHE season 4.

As for the best trailer of the week, the award goes to Hulu's THE ACT, which is being led by CHANNEL ZERO's Nick Antosca, a man who gained his sea legs from the tough writers room at NBC's HANNIBAL. Antosca is bringing director Steven Piet's talents the show, a man who made his mark when he delivered the incredible NO END HOUSE and will surely provide some feverishly raw iterations of Gypsy Blanchard (Joey King)'s story during his reunion with his former showrunner.
