As development has progressed on James Gunn's SUICIDE SQUAD sequel, it's become more and more apparent that it will be less of a sequel and more of a relaunch, with producer Peter Safran even telling JoBlo that it will be a "total reboot" of the first film. It's also been said that THE SUICIDE SQUAD will mostly feature an all-new cast of characters, but there will be a few familiar faces, one of which could be Captain Boomerang.
While speaking with Business Insider earlier today, Jai Courtney, who played Captain Boomerang in the David Ayer film, said that he'll be back to reprise the role for the James Gunn film.
We're getting ready to shoot in a few months' time. There's not much else I can reveal about it but, yeah, you'll be seeing Boomerang back for sure… I'm happy, it's going to be fun. It will be different, for sure, but it's going to be great.
Best to wait for something official to be announced before you start celebrating, or condemning, Jai Courtney's return as Captain Boomerang, but I'm quite excited to see how James Gunn plans on juggling the cast of this sequel/reboot. Margot Robbie is reportedly set to reprise her role of Harley Quinn for the film, but Will Smith won't be back to play Deadshot as the actor had to exit due to scheduling conflicts. Idris Elba (FAST & FURIOUS PRESENTS: HOBBS & SHAW) will be replacing him. Production on THE SUICIDE SQUAD is expected to get underway this fall, with Warner Bros. already slating the film in for an August 6, 2021 release.
Are you down for Jai Courtney returning as Captain Boomerang for THE SUICIDE SQUAD?
