While everyone is online fighting for AVENGERS: ENDGAME tickets it’s easy to forget that there are other movies coming out this year, and a big one everyone is looking toward is the upcoming JOKER movie starring Joaquin Phoenix. Director Todd Phillips (THE HANGOVER) has taken to Instagram plenty of times to show off production photos and videos, and now he’s unveiled the first official look at the teaser poster for the movie, which comes before the first teaser trailer tomorrow. The first poster – with appropriate teaser fashion – shows a bit of the demented clown looking especially creepy with nothing else but the title at the top. It’s a bit eerie, and certainly sells the notion that this isn’t your typical comic book movie. Of course, what will sell that better is the first footage tomorrow, and fingers crossed we get a taste of the nightmarish laugh Phoenix has no doubt been cooking up for the character.

One really interesting description of the approach came recently from actor/comedian Marc Maron, who talked about how Phillips is handling the movie on a grounded level that digs deep into the origin of the iconic character.
The approach that Todd Phillips has taken is more of an origin story and a character study of a mentally ill person that becomes The Joker. It’s more of an intimate and gritty movie with a very specific scope. It’s going to be really interesting to see how it comes out.
So, are you all excited to see the first footage from the movie tomorrow? What are you all expecting to see, and how have you been feeling about the pics and such that have come out in the past? In an age of superhero movies, as great as they can be, it's nice to have a movie that looks to break things up a bit and offer something different which, for better or worse, this is shaping up to be.
JOKER is in theaters October 4.
