Our own Editor-in-Chief Paul Shirey is currently attending CinemaCon in Las Vegas and STX Entertainment got the convention started with a presentation which included first looks at Guy Ritchie's THE GENTLEMEN, Chadwick Boseman's 21 BRIDGES, Dave Bautista's MY SPY, the sequel to THE BOY, a live performance of Kelly Clarkson's single "Broken and Beautiful" from UGLYDOLLS, and more. Take it away, Paul!
STX has released 27 films in the last four years in the mid-budget range. The plan is to continue down that path. #CinemaCon

The Best of Enemies is STX’s next release, starring @TherealTaraji and Sam Rockwell, based on a true story. Trailer has been out for a while; could potentially play well. Rockwell and Henson look to be giving their all.

Just saw an extended look at Poms, this year’s Book Club, which is sure to please the old lady crowd on Mother’s Day. Diane Keaton takes the stage and reminds us that she’s been in 68 movies throughout her career. #CinemaCon pic.twitter.com/qUqyLG2gS2

Although Poms isn’t in my wheelhouse, the film has a solid cast of classy actresses and Keaton’s appeal can’t be overlooked. #CinemaCon

Just saw a trailer for 21 Bridges with Chadwick Boseman, which looks like a solid cop thriller and good starring vehicle for Boseman. Taylor Kitsch as the key villain is a bonus and supporting cast includes Sienna Miller and JK Simmons. Looks like an old school 90s cop actioner.

Just saw a trailer for Dave Bautista’s My Spy, an action comedy that co-stars Chloe Coleman as a kid that wants to learn how to be a spy. Directed by Peter Segal, it looks like a young audience crowd pleaser with a high cringe level. #CinemaCon

Just saw a sizzle style early trailer for The Boy sequel titled Brahms: The Boy 2. The first one was a solid hit and this looks to scratch that itch for those looking for their creepy doll fix. We’ll also have a set visit report for this one later on! #CinemaCon

Katie Holmes stars in Brahms: The Boy 2 and takes the stage to talk about it. #CinemaCon pic.twitter.com/GopapFedtT

Saw a trailer for Guy Ritchie’s next,The Gentlemen, which is back to Ritchie’s crime movie roots. Starring Hugh Grant, Charlie Humman, Matthew McConnaughey and Colin Farrell and it looks like vintage hilarious awesomeness. #CinemaCon

If you love Ritchie’s Lock/Stock, Snatch, RocknRolla, etc., then The Gentlemen is made for you. Looks insanely fun and lots of laugh out loud moments in the trailer, especially from Farrell, who is always at his best when unhinged. #CinemaCon

Charlie Hunnam and Henry Golding take the stage to talk The Gentlemen (previously called Bush) and both are talking up how great it is to work with Ritchie, who changed things up frequently and worked collaboratively to develop the film during production. #CinemaCon pic.twitter.com/wuIUD2oWnM

Got a look at a trailer for a new adaptation of The Secret Garden starring Julie Walters and Colin Firth. Looks like a really beautifully made interpretation that is sure to hit everyone in the feels. #CinemaCon

Bad Moms Moms will be a spin-off of the Bad Mom’s Christmas characters, so that franchise will continue at STX #CinemaCon

Kelly Clarkson and Pitbull take the stage to talk #Uglydolls for the STX presentation. Clarkson says she borrowed some of Pitbull’s cologne for deodorant, so she’s wearing “Pitbull in her pits”. #CinemaCon pic.twitter.com/nWZwyiIkaG

Saw an extended look at the musical numbers from #Uglydolls and, well, it looks (and sounds) like an animated kids flick. Hard to say if it will connect with kids, but they are sure swinging for the fences. #CinemaCon

Kelly Clarkson takes the stage to perform the single “Broken and Beautiful” from the #Uglydolls soundtrack. #CinemaCon pic.twitter.com/H9bQPnHiOu

That’s it for STX presentation. Takeaways: Ritchie’s The Gentlemen looks absolutely awesome, 21 Bridges looks an old school cop thriller & good starring vehicle for Chadwick Boseman, Secret Garden a welcome new adaptation & singing ugly dolls are coming, like it or not #CinemaCon

Much like Paul, I'm pumped at the thought of Guy Ritchie making a return to the style and tone of LOCK, STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS and SNATCH, and THE GENTLEMEN (formally known as both TOFF GUYS and BUSH) sounds like a hell of a lot of fun. Starring Matthew McConaughey, Hugh Grant, Colin Farrell, Charlie Hunnam, Henry Golding, and Michelle Dockery, the film follows a very British drug lord who tries to sell off his highly profitable marijuana empire to a dynasty of Oklahoma billionaires. Before this return to classic-Ritchie, the director's next film is Disney's upcoming live-action adaptation of ALADDIN which will hit theaters on May 24, 2019.
The Warner Bros. presentation will kick off at 4:00pm PST, so we'll be sure to keep you apprised of any major reveals!
