Walton Goggins, The Righteous Gemstones, HBO

Praise be! It's been announced that Walton Goggins will be re-teaming with Danny McBride for HBO's new comedy series THE RIGHTEOUS GEMSTONES. Previously, the duo starred opposite one another for VICE PRINCIPALS, a series that focused on an over protective father who is obsessed with becoming a principal and competes against a popular vice principal. After some time, something happens that makes them work together to save the day. With Goggins joining the cast of McBride's new comedy as a recurring character, I suspect that we'll be seeing plenty of the pair's unique chemistry on screen as they venture into the shady inner workings of televangelism.

Written, directed and executive produced by McBride, THE RIGHTEOUS GEMSTONES will tell the tale of a world-famous televangelist family with a long tradition of deviance, greed and charitable work.

According to Deadline, who exclusively broke the news related to Goggin's casting this afternoon, Goggins will play Baby Billy, a former child star who clogged and sang for Jesus. As an aging man, he’s fallen on hard times and comes to the Gemstones for salvation.

Also set to appear in the upcoming comedy about religion gone wrong are John Goodman, Edi Patterson, Adam Devine, Cassidy Freeman, Tony Cavalero, Tim Baltz and GregAlan Williams.

Executive producing alongside McBride for the religious comedy are his Rough House Pictures partners Jody Hill and David Gordon Green, who between 2010-2013 presented sports fans with EASTBOUND & DOWN, the laugh-outloud comedy series centered on Kenny Powers (McBride), a burnt-out major league ballplayer who returns to teach Physical Education at his old middle school.

We'll be sure to bring you more news about THE RIGHTEOUS GEMSTONES as HBO continues to sing its praises.
