A rumor circulating around the old watercooler has wrestling champion turned Hollywood heavy-hitter John Cena looking to join the "Worst of the Worst" for Warner Bros. THE SUICIDE SQUAD. The high-profile project will be written and directed by GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY alum James Gunn, with Idris Elba, Margot Robbie, and Jai Courtney all set to caper around Gotham as the villainous ensemble willing to do Amanda Waller's dirty work. Robbie will of course reprise her role as the effervescent Harely Quinn, while Courtney will once again play the misguided manchild from down under, Captain Boomerang. Meanwhile, Elba was set to take Will Smith's place as Deadshot in the upcoming film, that was until Warner's decided that he will act as a new and yet-to-be-revealed character.

Word of Cena's casting comes courtesy of Variety, though I strongly urge you all to swallow this information with a grain of salt while we wait for the official word from the WB and James Gunn. Should Cena join THE SUICIDE SQUAD, the film will serve as his first foray into superhero cinema. The project is set to move into production this fall with plans to release the film in theaters on August 6, 2021.
