Godzilla, Ghidorah fight for the crown in final King of the Monsters trailer

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

A certain team of superheroes may be fighting in the endgame this week, but the upcoming GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS is bringing the real end of all things next month. The destruction will be vast and the monsters bringing it will be immense, and the final trailer for the rumble finds Godzilla and King Ghidorah going head-to-head (to-head-to-head) for dominance and the crown of King of the Monsters.

Just when you think the last epic trailer showed off as much chaotic, apocalyptic action as they could, they go ahead and top themselves with another trailer filled with new awesome shots. Unless you were lucky enough to see the extended trailer in IMAX recently, this is the most we’ve seen of Godzilla and Ghidorah squaring off, as well as the other monsters like Rodan and Mothra in the mix too. On the ground, the humans seem to have a clear favorite to win, and in the new trailer they’re teaming up with the title monster to bring the others down.

We’re still another month out from KING OF THE MONSTERS, which is a shame because based on everything I’ve seen my patience is being tested far more than I ever thought it would be for a sequel for 2014’s GODZILLA. But this movie looks like an entirely different beast, teasing cataclysmic action that will then lead into next year’s GODZILLA VS. KING KONG. That’s a lot of monster mashing just waiting to be witnesses.

Here’s the synopsis:

The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed Ghidorah.  When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity’s very existence hanging in the balance.

Directed by Michael Dougherty, written by himself and Zach Shields and starring Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Bradley Whitford, Sally Hawkins, Charles Dance, Thomas Middleditch, Aisha Hinds, O'Shea Jackson Jr., David Strathairn, Ken Watanabe, Zhang Ziyi, GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS is in theaters May 31.
