A new and official trailer for DC Universe's SWAMP THING has emerged from the depths that paints the upcoming series as a straight-up, horror-inspired frightfest overflowing with body horror, nightmare creatures, and enough blood to fill all the swamps in Wilmington, North Carolina (where the series was filmed). For quite some time, the show's producer, James Wan, has been promising that the show will take full-advantage of its R-rating, and now we can see that SWAMP THING will indeed be a very dark and violent endeavor.
As per the show's official description:
“Swamp Thing” centers on CDC researcher Abby Arcane (Reed). When she returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.
Directing the upcoming series for DC Universe is Len Wiseman from a script penned by Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman. Leading the series is Andy Bean as biologist Alec Holland, aka Swamp Thing, with Crystal Reed co-starring as CDC Doctor Abby Arcane, Swampy's love interest and a woman gifted with the psychic powers of empathy, telepathy and telekinesis. Also set to appear in the supernatural superhero series are Jennifer Beals, Virginia Madsen, Ian Ziering, Will Patton, Andy Bean, Crystal Reed, Kevin Durand, Henderson Wade, Jeryl Prescott, Maria Sten, and Derek Mears as the Swamp Thing creature. Meanwhile, E.L. Katz will also direct alongside Wiseman.
I'm freaking out, you guys! There's so much going on in this trailer. Horrific transformations, monster-vision, possession, the sawing up of what I can only assume are body parts, creatures rising from the depths, and of course, Swampy, in all of his tortured, staggering glory. For as long as I can remember, Swamp Thing has always welcomed readers into very dark corners of the DC Universe, all the way back to the days when creators like Len Wein, Alan Moore, and Jeff Lemire were helming the character. Now it's Team Wan's to take a stab at the character, and it looks as if the gloves are officially off for this one. Bring it the hell on!
