Sonic the Hedgehog

The first trailer for SONIC THE HEDGEHOG was released several days ago and gave us our first real look at the bright blue speedster. Unfortunately, that first look was immediately followed by a largely negative reaction as many were horrified by Sonic's appearance, going so far as to call it a blight on humanity. Yeesh. SONIC THE HEDGEHOG director Jeff Fowler is well aware of the reaction towards the film and took to Twitter earlier today to promise that there are going to be changes to the character design of Sonic.

Even with the negative reaction, I never would have expected that SEGA and Paramount would go back to the drawing board on Sonic's design, so this is good move. Although there's still several months to go until the release of SONIC THE HEDGEHOG, these changes will likely mean an enormous amount of work for the team. Here's hoping that it all pays off at the end of the day.

The official synopsis for SONIC THE HEDGEHOG:

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination. The film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG will hit theaters on November 8, 2019.
