Ivy: Alice Braga to be terrorized by AI in Netflix sci-fi thriller

Alice Braga's USA Network series Queen of the South just wrapped up its five season run, and the actress is moving on to her next project. Braga has signed on to star in the Netflix thriller Ivy, which will tell the story of 

a mother who is recovering from a brutal accident and moves into a prototype smart home. As she begins to get settled, she finds out that the house’s groundbreaking AI technology is quickly developing real human emotions.

I'm sure the execution will be quite different, but that plot synopsis brings to mind a thriller that's already on Netflix, Tau, which had Maika Monroe dealing with a house's AI tech.

Danis Goulet will be directing Ivy from a screenplay by Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg. The writers have experience with Netflix sci-fi thrillers, as Cohen wrote the film Extinction, which was released through the streaming service, and Halberg was co-producer on that film.

Cohen and Halberg are executive producing this one with Christopher Yurkovich, Alex Ordanis, and Tara Farney. The producers are Tripp Vinson of Vinson Films and Daniel Bekerman of Scythia Films.

Other than Queen of the South, Braga's previous credits include I Am Legend, Redbelt, Repo Men, Predators, The Rite, Elysium, and The New Mutants. She got her start working on films like City of God, Lower City, and Only God Knows in her native Brazil.

Goulet began her career in the entertainment industry by working in the casting department, then started writing and directing her own short films. She made her feature directorial debut with the sci-fi movie Night Raiders, which just had its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival three months ago.

Netflix has not yet announced a release date for Ivy. We'll keep you updated on the project as it continues to move forward.
